From the Agoras of Ancient Greece to Tahrir Square during the Arab Spring, people have gathered together in public squares to revolt, protest, and celebrate. After centuries of congregating in physical public squares , there is now a new public square – a virtual space that is free from the limitations of geography, borders, and time zones. With Google’s hangouts on air, everyday citizens now have a platform to speak out and voice their opinions on public issues regardless of status, gender, ethnicity, nationality or location.
Express your views on affirmative action. Debate global warming with someone on the other side of the globe. Tell our leaders what’s really on your mind. Hang out in the square.
